Regions 6,7,& 8 Draft iSchools Project Sustainability Plan

Participants of the Sustainability Planning Workshop (SPW) in Eastern Visayas joined their hands together as they pledge their commitment to the 2007 iSchools Project of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).

Over a hundred Principals, Parents-Teachers Association Presidents, Local Government Unit Representatives of the recipient schools from Regions 6,7 and 8 came to Asia Convention Center, Tacloban City for a 3-day training-workshop on March 18-20, 2009. This was hosted by the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) iSchools Team.

The aim of the workshop is for the participants to draft a sustainability plan that would help the dreams of the high school students come true - to be one with the world, a world that is connected through the internet.

With this plan and goal in mind, the lines of the song that participants sang at the end of the workshop became even more meaningful-- “If we hold on together, I know our dreams will never die. Dreams see us through to forever, where clouds roll by…For YOU and I”.

The objective of the workshop was to revise the laboratory management curriculum based on the experiences of the trainers on the field. Mr. Clement Rasul, a National Consultant for Education Management Information System and an expert on Open Source System Development, guided the participants in obtaining this goal.

The participants were Baquirquir, Lloyd A., Batangas State University; Diaz, Mario Rosendo, Benguet State University; Medina, Ronald, Western Mindanao State University; Miras, Adrian F., Laguna University; Pulma, Danilo B., Eastern Visayas State University; Santiago, Tristan Rex E., Western Philippines University; Villaruz, Dorward F., Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology; Mahinay, Marc Joseph, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology; and Leonido, Alex L. Wertern Visayas College of Science & Technology.

After a rigid brainstorming and consultation, the group was able to come up with a 3- day Training Design for the Trainer’s Training and a 5-day Training Design for the public high schools.

“The Laboratory Management Training this year uses a practical approach. The training design is based on the capability and needs of the Laboratory Managers of the Public High Schools. This is something they would easily appreciate and understand,” said Dr. Danilo B. Pulma, a participant and the ICTC of the EVSU iSchools Team.
